Short Project description (from the project’s application)

“The Short Sea shipping between the Mediterranean countries has been considered a valid solution in relation to the intentions of the EU. But until the moment, and in a prominent way, for this type of transport we have been using the RO-RO maritime, Traffic type, which consists in loading the trucks on the vessels, also tractors or only platforms. To carry out these operations, we have ad hoc port terminals at our disposal.”

Functionalities

The application interface has the following structure and it is divided into 8 separate sections as follows

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Where,

1. : Today’s date

(Present page) Also includes selections for, Admin (For partners only), Contact page, Search, Multilingual area. (Now the working languages are English, French, Spanish, Italian, Slovenian, and Greek) – It can be expanded to any human language.

3. : Main menu

Where,

a. Country Ports - Selection of country and working port, by pull down menu.
b. Country Operators - The system creates a list of all operators in the country;from this list the user can select an operator for further info.
c. Container Terminals – The system presents further selection and investigation the list of all Container terminals in the Country and Port selected (from Country Ports)
d. Annual Data – The last 5 years of annual data, such as year, Turnover, TEUs, Employees, and TEUs moved by rail.
e. Railways – Information of the existing railways in the terminal, if available plus a Google map of the area, showing all real time ships in the area (AIS) by the time of calling this page. For the functionality of the AIS map, please see AIS Toolbar below.
f. Infrastructure Info – Information of all reported infrastructures in the area of the terminal, and a Google map of the area, showing all real time ships in the area (AIS) by the time of activating this page. The user can see the AIS information on a new separate page by clicking the phrase “View Larger map” on the bottom side of the map area.
g. Other Terminal Info – Additional information on the selected Container Terminal.
h. Reports – A list of several reports designed for this application.

8. The map

The map of the Mediterranean Sea and the surrounding countries, showing the places where there are all the Container terminals reported in the project.

By selecting (clicking) the small vessels picture on the map, the system returns a balloon type window with a few of the terminal information and a picture of the terminal. On the bottom side of this balloon, by clicking the word Details the system presents the Google map of the selected terminal (full Google functionality) with all known information about the terminal, with pictures and data.
